Who and What is Sabipay?
Innovation is transforming the way individuals and businesses conduct transactions today. One of the players driving this transformation is Sabipay. Let’s take a closer look.
The Birth of Sabipay
We are a subsidiary of Pesapal Limited, a leading African fintech company known for delivering digital payment solutions across multiple sectors. While Pesapal has built a strong reputation in East Africa with products such as Reserveport, Openfloat, and POS solutions, Sabipay was created to expand this mission further into new markets, specifically Zambia.
In August 2024, we achieved a major milestone when it was granted a Payments System Business License by the Bank of Zambia. This license empowers the company to legally offer a wide range of financial services, from processing online transactions to integrating with mobile money platforms. For Zambia, this represents not just another fintech player entering the market, but a regulated, trusted system that promises to drive greater inclusion and efficiency.
What Does Sabipay Do?
We position ourselves as more than just a payment gateway. We are a comprehensive digital payment ecosystem designed to simplify how people and businesses handle money.
Here are the core services we offer:
Mobile Money Integration
Users can pay through popular mobile money platforms such as Airtel Money, MTN MoMo, and Zamtel Kwacha. By connecting to these services, we ensure convenience for the millions of Zambians who rely on mobile wallets daily.
Card Payments
We support major international cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and UnionPay International (UPI). This makes it possible for both local and international customers to transact seamlessly with businesses in Zambia.
Digital Wallets & Tap-to-Pay
With the rise of contactless technology, we also allow payments via Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Fitbit Pay. This positions the platform as future-ready, catering to tech-savvy customers who prefer fast, secure, and touch-free payments.
Business Tools and APIs
For busineses, we offer APIs and integrations that allow you to accept payments online, streamline reconciliations, and manage financial data efficiently.
Why Sabipay
The launch of Sabipay is more than just a new product in the market, it’s a sign of how Africa’s financial sector is maturing. Here’s why it matters:
Financial Inclusion: By combining mobile money and global card networks, we ensure that individuals and small businesses have more ways to send and receive money.
Trust and Regulation: Being licensed by the Bank of Zambia assures customers and merchants that Sabipay operates under strict regulatory oversight, building trust in its services.
Cross-Border Growth: As a subsidiary of Pesapal, Sabipay benefits from the experience, technology, and regional presence of its parent company, giving it an edge in scaling services.
Empowering Businesses: From small startups to large enterprises, Sabipay gives merchants modern tools to reach more customers, accept diverse payment methods, and focus on growth.
Sabipay and the Future of Payments in Zambia
Zambia, like many African nations, has witnessed a surge in digital payments, driven by mobile technology, rising internet penetration, and a young population eager for modern solutions. Sabipay enters the market at the right moment, offering both innovation and compliance.
Looking ahead, we aim to play a key role in making Zambia a cash-lite economy, where digital payments become the norm rather than the exception. By bridging the gap between local needs and global standards, we are positioning ourselves as a cornerstone of Zambia’s digital transformation.
As Africa continues its digital finance revolution, Sabipay is set to become a key enabler, helping Zambia and the region at large embrace a more innovative, faster, and inclusive way to transact.
